The Syracuse University Investment Club (SUIB) serves as the elite hands-on learning opportunity for all undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of home college, interested in investing and sparking a passion for the markets. The SUIB invests in both debt and equity instruments and while one of its goals is to realize gains on each of its investments, its main purpose is to teach and learn through our weekly meetings how the financial markets work and how to invest/speculate effectively.
The SUIC is an interactive, team-oriented experience focused on mentoring and guiding its members from their first year of college to their first year on the job. The SUIC challenges its members to ask the right questions when analyzing an industry such as “how are these companies able to maintain a profit” or “what makes them successful.” Incoming freshmen and seasoned seniors from any major at Syracuse University are able to meaningfully contribute side-by-side managing SUIC's assets through guided investment research and management.
General meetings are held at 7:00 pm every Tuesday in Room 104
Macro Fund
The Macro Fund aims to leverage knowledge of the global economy and individual countries and currencies into out sized returns by basing holdings off of macroeconomic principles.
Contrarian Fund
The Contrarian Fund seeks to gain an advantage by, when appropriate, taking the opposite position of many analysts in the investment community. The fund believes that by rejecting popular opinion, profit opportunities arise.
Growth Fund
As it sounds, the Growth Fund aims to initiate positions in securities that demonstrate the ability to grow their intrinsic value. Our Growth Fund prefers equities with earnings growth above 10% and PEG Ratios below 1.
Value Fund
The Value Fund looks to invest in companies which it determines to be undervalued. Focusing more on safety than the growth fund, the Value Fund often chooses investments that provide dividends as well as capital appreciation.
